Yesterday, White House officials said they ordered Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC specialists to review the reopening guidelines, because the draft safe reopening guideline was branded as «too prescriptive» and said it will ask governors to submit their own reopening plans.
For White House officials, this CDC guide is not aligned with President Donald Trump‘s strategy to reopen the United States economy, which is under heavy pressure after 33 million workers have already asked for federal unemployment aid.
The CDC guidelines have specific instructions for churches, schools, restaurants and other establishments to reopen safely. For churches, they included a recommendation to stream online services, limit the number of congregants within churches, and offer ecclesiastical drive-in services for people at high risk.
These CDC guidelines also recommend that restaurants and bars increase standing occupancy to allow for social distancing. Additionally, these restaurant recommendations include the use of disposable plates and utensils in all types of meals.
But the CDC in its guidelines to safely reopen the country, asks to close every two rows of seats on buses and subways while restricting transit routes between areas experiencing different levels of coronavirus infection.
These recommendations even apply to schools by stating that children should be separated at school and camps into groups that should not be mixed during the day.
CDC specialists developed the guide when the governors of various states in the US began lifting blockade orders or other restrictions to reopen their economies. For President Trump and White House officials, the virus is affecting states and communities in different ways, but mainly it is damaging the country’s economy, which is why they urge local governors and leaders to make decisions.
But the White House and other Trump administration officials emphatically rejected the CDC‘s recommendations, noting that the recommendations in this guide were too prescriptive, infringed on religious rights, and ran the risk of further damaging an economy that Trump hoped to quickly recover.
However, in rejection of the proposal, a CDC spokesman said the guide was still under discussion with the White House and that a revised version could soon be released. Now, it is unclear whether, or when, the CDC will issue revised formal guidelines for businesses and other establishments.
The only truth is that it can be seen that the economy is being prioritized over the health of citizens, something that many Americans do not agree with.
